Vintage Racers Score June Wins With Prather
Engines
WAKARUSA, Kan. (July 5, 2008) -- Prather
Racing engines have not only been tearing up the track at SCCA events in
2008, as Bill Treffert and Scott Schmidt scored big wins in vintage
competition in late June.

Treffert, driving a Prather-powered 1961 MGA Mk. II,
dominated the 2D class at the 29th Annual VARAC International Vintage
Festival at Mosport International Raceway in Canada June 21-22. After
leading all sessions throughout the weekend, Treffert did it one better,
and scored the overall win in the Vintage Production race, topping a host
of Healeys, Lotuses, Elvas and MGs.
Schmidt, of Lawrence, Kan., had the 1275cc motor for
his Mk. III Austin-Healey Sprite on the Prather Racing dyno shortly before
heading to the June 27-29 SVRA event at Mid-Ohio. The event was special in
that it featured the 50th Sprite Anniversary race, for cars in a variety
of race trims. Schmidt finished fourth in the qualifying race and would
line up for the big race sixth overall.
As was the case for much of the weekend, the weather
was unpredictable and rain was in store for the 50th Anniversary race.
Schmidt took the green fifth as the conditions depleted the field with car
owners not wanting to subject their classic race cars to the conditions.
By the end of lap one, Schmidt was out front overall. He was never
challenged, driving a masterful race and winning by over 25 seconds. A
special story in the Bucyrus
Telegraph documented the feat.
